April  2010  NEWSLETTER

PRESIDENT’S COLUMN

Greetings My Brothers and Sisters;

      Spring brings with it a spirit of change, rebirth and excitement. Those of us in recovery have an extraordinary understanding of that spirit. It is in that spirit that I share with you some of the changes that are taking place at the Club.

      For many people the first formal contact they have with the club is the telephone call that they place to the club office. Some call seeking resources to help them in recovery. Others call the club to clarify information concerning the club, which they have received elsewhere. Typically there is no one in the office to answer calls, so callers leave voice mails. When individuals leave a message, it is vital that their messages be responded to in a timely manner.

      Judy G. has agreed to check our answering machine on a regular basis. She either responds to the caller herself or routes the message to the appropriate person.  This insures that everyone who calls the WRC experiences us as the warm and responsive folks that we are.

      Over the years our bookstore has been an important resource for the area’s recovery community. I can remember when I served as the treasurer for an East Hartford group that the WRC bookstore was the only reasonable source for recovery related materials. Many groups have grown to depend on our store. Just as important are the individuals who look to us to provide them with the literature which they desire to support them in their recovery efforts.

       Debi S. is the new Bookstore Manager. In that capacity she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the bookstore. Hillary W. and John M. are serving as liaisons to the Board of Directors (BOD).   Lyne S. has resigned from her position with the Bookstore. We thank Lyne for all the energy and expertise she devoted to the “Bump-Up the Bookstore” effort. Under her leadership the Bookstore rose to a new level.

      When I first became a member of the WRC,  I looked forward to receiving the Newsletter. It served as a point of connection for me. The Newsletter kept me aware of the various activities the Club promoted. In my view, it is of paramount importance that the Club  has a well-informed membership. The Newsletter is the primary tool for relaying, on a regular basis, reliable information about the Club.

      Maureen M.  and Rob S. have assumed responsibility for editing the Newsletter; Carla R. is serving as  the Newsletter  liason with  the Board of Directors (BOD, and  Marcia H. the  board’s Corresponding Secretary,  is responsible for the  distribution. I am confident that many of you celebrate with me the rebirth of the Newsletter.

            While the Newsletter is  the primary means of transmitting information internally, our Website is the primary means by which we share information with the external community. Having a reliable, informative website is an essential tool for the club.

      John M. is the new Web Master.   Please visit the website , www.windsorrecoveryclub.org at your next opportunity; I am convinced that you will be excited and impressed by what you see.

      Please join me in thanking the people who have accepted new responsibilities in service to the Club. I congratulate them as they assume their new duties.

      As we experience the excitement of renewal this spring, let us be mindful of those who have  made  this organization possible. Let us remember the founding members of the Windsor Recovery Club, and be cognizant of the fact that it was their vision and hard work which made it possible for us to experience the excitement and anticipation that we do  today.

      I am aware that I am standing on the shoulders of the Presidents that served before me. I thank them and I honor them.

      Fred Faulkner

As many of you may have heard by now, an informational website has been set up for the Windsor Recovery Club.  On it, you will find the month’s events as well as schedules for recovery meetings held at the WRC.  There is also an email address to which you will be able to send questions (under construction).  For the immediate future, please contact a WRC member for any questions or concerns that you may have (you can find us at most meetings in the WRC).

Other features of the website include WRC member application forms and instructions on how to submit them, WRC bookstore hours, ( currently  being revisited, )recovery  related inks, and the most  recent WRC newsletter.

Plans for the future:  There will be forms for events and retreats sponsored by the WRC.  We are looking for articles detailing the history of the Windsor Recovery Club. If you are aware of any websites or newspaper articles, or have first hand knowledge of its history that you would like to have shared on the  website, please email Windsor RecoveryClub@gmail.com.      (John M.  Web Master)
